To use dialup-PPP services under Windows
NT4.0, you will need to install the
Remote Access Services (RAS) that
comes with Windows NT4.0 distribution.
Installing Modem driver
Before attempting to install RAS,
you must install at least one communication
device. Modems are installed using
the Modem utility in the Control Panel.
Here is the procedure:
1. Open 'Modem Utility' in 'Control
Panel'
2. If no modem has been installed,
the 'Install New Modem Wizard' will
be invoked
3. You can either let Windows NT to
scan for your modem or specify a modem
yourself
4. Choose 'Next' when you are satisfied
with the modem choice
5. Choose 'Finish' when you are informed
your modem has been setup successfully.
Installing the RAS Software
1. Open 'Network Utility' in 'Control
Panel', select 'Service' tab
2. Click 'Add' and select 'Remote
Access Service' in 'Network Service'
box
3. Click 'OK'
4. The system will copying files from
the distribution CD-ROM. You will
then be returned to 'Network Utility'
window
5. After files are copied, the 'Add
RAS Device' dialog appears, if no
modem appears in the 'RAS Capable
Devices List', click 'Install Modem'
to add one
6. Click 'Install X25 Pad' to add
and X.25 packet assember-disassembler
7. 'Remote Access Setup' dialog box
will appear, select a port and choose
'Configure' to set the port as "Dial
out only"
8. Select 'Network' and choose "TCP/IP"
as the 'Dial-out Protocol'
9. When you see the message "Remote
Access Services has been successfully
installed", click 'OK'
10. Close 'Network Utility' and restart
the NT Server
