Macintosh OS 8.0 Internet Setup

This guide is intended for Macintosh users running Operating System 7.6.1 through OS8, or those who are using Open Transport version 1.1.2 or newer. If you are running system 7.1 through 7.5.5, on MacTCP or Open Transport 1.1.1, please refer to the MacPPP guide.

What You Need

These three control panels:
1. PPP
2. Modem
3. TCP/IP

You can go to "Apple Menu Items" and then "Control Panel" folder to verify all these neccessary items.

Installing Missing Software:
If you are missing any of the three control panels (PPP, Modem or TCP/IP), you will need to reinstall OT/PPP from your system disks or CD. Consult your user manual or contact Apple Support if you need additional help installing software.

PPP Setup Procedures

1. Start the Apple Menu Items and choose "Control Panels/PPP".



2. Choose the option for "Registered" User.

3. Enter your login name into the "Name" field. The

4. Type your Password in the "Password" field (Save password is a preference).

5. Type the access number in the "Number" field:
30013579(X2 V.90) or 30041500(K56FLEX V.90).

6. Click the button "Options" to setup PPP.



a) Check the option 'Allow error correction' and 'compression in modem'.
b) Check the option 'Use TCP header compression'.
c) Do not check the option 'Connect to a command-line host'.
d) Press "OK".

7. To setup 'TCP/IP' and your 'Modem' click "PPP" (from the menu bar).

8. Choose "Modem" on the image below to configure your modem.



a) Choose your 'Modem' port on the 'Connect via' list.
b) Choose your modem brand and modem from the 'Modem' list.
c) It is best to leave the modem sound "On".
d) Choose the option for 'Tone or Pulse' dialing.
e) Close the "Modem" configuration.

9. Choose "PPP"(from the menu bar)/ "TCP/IP" to configure TCP/IP (Open Transport).



a) Choose the option Using 'PPP Server' under the "Configure" option.
b) IP Address, Subnet mask and Router address should all be supplied by server or blank.
c) Enter the DNSs in "Name server address" field: "202.81.252.1" and "202.81.252.2".
d) The "Search domains" should be "netfront.net".
e) Close Open Tranport (you may need to restart your machine).

Once completed, return to the main PPP panel. Once you have completed setting up PPP Options, TCP/IP and your Modem, click "Connect" connect to the network.

If your system contain the "Internet Assistant", the setup will be simpler. Just run the "Internet Assistant" and make the following configuration:

1. Choose "easy" setup.
2. Skip "Introduction" and "Add Internet Configuration".
3. Choose connected to internet using "modem".
4. Choose using "modem port/printer port" depends on your own setup.
5. Enter the "phone no.": 30013579 "login name" and "password" (you may leave it blank).
6. At "assigned IP address", choose "No".
7. Enter two "DNS Address": 202.81.252.1, 202.81.252.2 and "Domain Name": netfront.net
8. Enter your"E-mail Address"(reply email address).
9. Enter "POP Server": pop.netfront.net, "SMTP Server": mail.netfront.net
10.Choose "Detail" if you want to check the previous entries, " Go ahead" is to make connection.
