McMug

You may notice that the style of my home pages resembles the McMug comics. Well you see, I am a big fan of McMug and I have all the McMug comics on my book shelf.

For those who do not know about McMug, here is some background information. McMug is the brain-child of Brian Tse and Alice Mak. The McMug stories are written by Brian Tse and he really produced some of the funniest stories I have ever seen. It is hard to explain the charisma of McMug by describing it. It is beyond words.

The McMug comics is sometimes childish, sometimes deep (more often both childish and deep). This may be the reason why McMug attracts readers ranging from kindergarten children to university professors and readers of different ages and backgrounds.
(From the preface of the McMug Comics Sampler. The original text is in Chinese. I took the liberty of translating it into English.)

McMug would not be McMug without the art of Alice Mak. She is a graduate of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (known as the Hong Kong Polytechnic Institute when she was there). After she left HKP, she worked as an illustrationist.

If you want to know about McMug, you can see some of the McMug stories on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, some of the funniest McMug stories are deeply related to our culture in Hong Kong and have dialogues in Cantonese. It would be very difficult, if not at all impossible to translate those stories to written Chinese, let alone in English without losing the essence of McMug. But hey, it is an enjoyable experience to look at the drawing of Alice Mak and some of the McMug stories are funny no matter where the reader comes from.
